More About the Social Concerns Committee (SCC)The Social Concerns Committee of the South Coast Interfaith Council is nonpartisan and reflects the moral sensibilities shared by the faith traditions of its constituents. It is guided specifically by the Council’s “Mission” and the “Statement of Vision and Values” appearing on the home page of this website. The committee’s operation is prescribed by the SCIC’s Constitution and By-Laws. It provides opportunities to members of SCIC-affiliated faith communities and others to learn about and address relevant social issues. A written report is prepared for each meeting of SCIC's Board of Directors. Occasionally the committee also makes recommendations to the Board on positions it should take. During the course of each calendar year its activities are largely framed by its Priority Goals. Toward the end of each year the committee looks at its accomplishments and also at the social challenges that lie ahead and proposes a revised set of Priority Goals. These goals are then approved by the Board for the coming year. The committee's meetings are open to everyone desiring to help the committee fulfill its purpose. An e-mail address list is maintained for its members and anyone else who would like to receive its e-mail messages. These messages include notices of meetings, agendas, meeting minutes, action alerts, and occasional notices of special events. Requests to be added to the Social Concerns e-mail list can be made directly to emailing the SCIC.
