South Coast Interfaith Council
The South Coast Interfaith Council, founded in 1953, is an association of over 140 member congregations and related programs in the South Bay-Harbor-Long Beach area of Los Angeles and West Orange counties, encompassing some 35 cities and approximately 1.8 million people. In a historic vote in March, 2004, at the 51st Annual Assembly of the South Coast Ecumenical Council, the vote was taken to become the South Coast Interfaith Council, including member congregations from a variety of religious traditions. In 1980, the SCEC was formed from a merger of the Long Beach Council of Churches, founded in 1953, and the Greater Peninsula Council of Churches, 1958.
Our MissionIt is the Mission of the South Coast Interfaith Council to promote mutual understanding, respect, appreciation and cooperation among people of faith in the Greater South Bay-Harbor-Long Beach-West Orange County area through extending hospitality, offering educational opportunities, providing moral leadership, sharing in service and working for justice.
